📌 Steps to Adopt a New UniFi Access Point

  1. Connect the AP

    • Plug the UniFi AP into your network (PoE switch or PoE injector).

    • Make sure it gets power and an IP address from your DHCP server (usually your UniFi Gateway or router).

  2. Log in to UniFi Dashboard

    • Go to your UniFi Controller / UniFi OS Console (Cloud Key, UDM/UDR, or UniFi Network Application).

    • Open the UniFi Network application.

  3. Go to Devices

    • In the left sidebar, click Devices.

    • You should see the new AP listed as Pending Adoption (or “Ready to Adopt”).

  4. Adopt the AP

    • Click on the AP.

    • Press the Adopt button.

    • The controller will push your settings (SSID, VLAN, etc.) to the AP.

  5. Wait for Provisioning

    • Status will change from Adopting → Provisioning → Connected.

    • Once “Connected,” your AP is fully added.

🔧 If AP does not appear:

  • Make sure the AP is on the same Layer 2 network as the controller.

  • If it shows as Managed by Other, reset the AP:

    • Hold the reset button (small hole) for ~10 seconds until LED flashes.

    • Then try adopting again.

  • Ensure ports (especially 8080/8443/3478) are not blocked if controller is remote.
