Steps to Create VLAN in UniFi Dashboard

  1. Log in to your UniFi Network Controller (cloud or local).

  2. On the left panel, go to Settings ⚙️.

  3. Under Settings, select Networks.

  4. Click Create New Network.

  5. Fill in the details:

    • Name → e.g., "VLAN20-Staff"

    • Purpose → select Corporate (for normal LAN use) or Guest (for isolated guest networks).

    • VLAN ID → enter your VLAN number (e.g., 20).

    • Gateway / Subnet → define if this VLAN should have DHCP handled by the UniFi gateway.

      • Example: 192.168.20.1/24

    • DHCP Mode → choose:

      • DHCP Server (if UniFi gateway will serve IPs),

      • None (if an external DHCP server will handle IPs).

  6. (Optional) Set Advanced Options like:

    • IGMP Snooping

    • DHCP Guarding

    • DNS Servers

  7. Click Save

Applying the VLAN

After creating the VLAN network:

  • For Wired Devices → Go to Settings > Profiles > Switch Ports, and assign the port profile to include your new VLAN.

  • For Wi-Fi SSIDs → Go to Settings > WiFi, edit or create an SSID, enable Use VLAN, and enter the VLAN ID.

⚡ Tip: Make sure your router/switch supports VLANs and that trunk ports are configured if you’re tagging VLANs between switches.
